Product description
National artist Janko Alexy (25.1.1894 Liptovsky Mikulas - 22.9.1970 Bratislava), painter, writer and publicist significantly influenced the development of modern Slovak painting, cultural and social life. He began his creative artistic work with socially motivated expressive work from the environment of the urban periphery. He developed genre painting in an original way in pictures inspired by ballads, folk songs and legends. Later his interests turned to landscape. He also devoted attention to stained glass and tapestries. Pastel was his most characteristic artistic technique. Alexy's decorative genre pastels are a significant contribution to Slovak creative art. He also wrote various stories and novels and was active as a popular writer on art. Obverse: The head of a woman, harmoniously combined with a landscape, taken from Alexy's work "the Shepherdess", is depicted in the centre. The coat of arms, the name of the state "SLOVENSKA REPUBLIKA", the nominal value and the year of issue are also placed in the field of the coin. Reverse: A portrait of Janko Alexy occupies the centre of the coin. A copy of Alexy's signature with the dates of his birth and death are written from bottom to top to the right of the portrait.
