Product description
On 14 September 2021, the Czech National Bank is putting into circulation a CZK 10,000 gold coin to mark the 1100th anniversary of the death of Princess Ludmila. The coin is minted from 999.9 purity gold and is issued in two versions, normal quality and proof quality, which differ in surface treatment and edge marking. Proof-quality coins have a highly polished field, a matt relief and a plain edge. Normal quality coins have milled edges. The coin is 34 mm in diameter, weighs 31.107 g and is 2.4 mm thick. Deviations in diameter of 0.1 mm and thickness of 0.15 mm are allowed. Upward deviations in weight of 0.062 g and in gold content of 0.01% are allowed. The obverse side depicts the strangling of Princess Ludmila according to the Velislav Bible. The text “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA” is located near the upper edge of the coin above heraldic animals from the large national coat-of-arms. The Czech lion is in the middle, with the Moravian eagle to the left and the Silesian eagle to the right. The denomination and abbreviated monetary unit “10,000 Kč” are written near the lower edge of the coin. The mark of the Czech Mint, in the form of the letters “Č” and “M”, is located near the right-hand edge of the coin. The reverse side features a portrait of Princess Ludmila wearing a veil and a prince’s coronet. The initials of the designer of the coin, the sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů – the letters “F” and “Z” – and the text “921-2021” are situated near the left-hand edge of the coin. The initials are separated from the text by a dot. The text “KNĚŽNA LUDMILA” is located near the right-hand edge of the coin. Each coin comes with a red catalogue card containing a description and the relief of the coin.
